Scar Revision

Scars vary in shape and size and thickness and some are stretched. Many scars improve with time but some may benefit from silicone tape or a series of steroid injections (usually 3). Others may improve after being cut out and restitched, which can usually be done under a local anaesthetic. Stitches may be dissolvable or non-dissolvable depending on where the scar is on the body and its length.

Non-dissolvable stitches on the face will be removed 5-7 days later by the hospital nurses or the practice nurse at your GP's. If surgery is on another part of your body, stitches will be removed 2 weeks later.

If you can any concerns please contact Jan 07722841078 or the hospital ward directly.

In an emergency, if you cannot contact either, please contact your GP or St George's hospital 0208 672 1255  and ask for the on call plastic surgery doctor or go directly to the A+E department.
